The sky is falling! That’s one of the many reasons folks are staying indoors this winter season. Snow has been covering skyscrapers and the Rocky Mountains, and it doesn’t look like it will stop any time soon. So, if you are someone who doesn’t enjoy driving in the harsh winter conditions that Mother Nature has laid out for us, you may be stuck in your home for a few more months. But that’s no fun! It’s important that you continue to live your life to the fullest, even if the roads aren’t what you had hoped. The safest way to drive on Denver’s highways is to prepare, prepare, prepare. In our previous post, your most trusted auto repair crew began giving drivers a pre-season checkup list; here are more.

  • Tires. Traction is the key to exceptional movement such as turning and stopping on snow-packed surfaces. Good tread means being at least an ⅛ of an inch in depth, and it can allow you to escape from the water and slush that are preventing you from gaining traction. So consider changing your tires to all-weather tires or tires that were specifically designed to allow for traction in wintery conditions. And don’t forget that your tires should also be properly inflated. Check your vehicle’s owner’s manual for the correct pressure, or contact our transmission pros at Urban Autocare.
  • Windshield Wipers & Washer Fluid. When was the last time you filled up your washer fluid or replaced your windshield wipers? If your windshield wipers are torn, they should be replaced. Don’t settle for streaks on your windshield, replace them with new ones at an affordable price before the start of every winter season or as soon as they start failing.
