Learning the ins and outs of every car can be difficult, but if you have a general understanding of vehicles in general, then it may be easier for you to become a better driver who is more aware of what your car can mechanically handle and what it can’t. We started giving you the myths and truths in the automotive world in our previous post, and here are more mechanical misconceptions we’re setting straight.

Myth	Fact
Putting tires that have a larger diameter on a low-profile vehicle will automatically improve the handling.	Although you may think that this is true, it couldn’t be farther from the truth. Vehicles that are low in profile and have larger-diameter tires on their axles are more for show than anything. Bigger tires on a low-profile car will create the illusion of increased steering response, but traction is solely determined on the tread rubber on the tire, not the diameter.
If you buy All-Season tires, you’ll get more traction on wet roads.	Many people are unaware that summer tires are great for both wet and dry roads. In fact, they’re actually better to drive than an All-Season tire. An All-Season tire is great for gaining mobility when it is below freezing and snowing. So, if you live somewhere where it doesn’t snow much, stick with a summer tire, even for consistently wet roads.
Engine oil should be changed every 3,000 miles, no matter what.	Depending on the vehicle you drive and the oil you use, you may only have to change your car’s oil every 10,000 miles. Check with your local Subaru auto repair shop to learn about your car specifically.
